'The soul has been given its own ears to hear things mind does not understand.' – Rumi
There is the depth of you that always wants to be known, that desires to unfold into its most authentic expression and live a life of meaningful enrichment. Some would say this is the greatest form of intimacy, of love, to dwell inside the essence of our being, to make contact again and again with the truth of our soul.
This turning within can be a challenging path, one in which many previously long-held conditioned beliefs and mistaken perceptions about ourselves, and the world, are revealed to be the most poignant obstructions to cultivating inner peace. These inner obstructions and tensions, when contacted in an attuned and empathic way, become furtile and ground for profound life transformation.
At a deeper level, behind our afflictions, anxieties, addictions, grieving, mental health issues and the life challenges we face, there resides the more subtle and rich voice of the soul. How do we bring the mystery of the soul into the foreground of our lives? How do we recognise the needs of the soul and the longing to live with more wholeness, no longer abandoning ourselves and denying who we are?
I have spent many years companioning those who have experienced great loss, grief, death, deep psychological pain and suffering, personal instability and longing for a more authentic life. Cultivating a safe and sacred space that provides a sanctuary the hurt, the fear, the grief and the beauty, is integral to how we begin to listen and walk in the presence of soul. It is here, in this suspended state, where things feel unknown, and unexpected, that we learn to truly trust and embody an innate wisdom – the subtle voice of soul that guides us through the darkness and brings more light and meaning into our world.
Soul Work is the art of letting ourselves continually be deconstructed and reassembled. To feel comfortable in the vulnerable and uncertain landscapes of these transitional spaces, but most of all, to learn how to hear the call for greater depth and aliveness, and then to respond.
